Description
Wildlife Landscape Photography of a lovely and graceful single Mule Deer Doe, alone in a winter meadow at sunset. The air was still, the sun just beginning to set, and she was there, all alone, in a mountain winter meadow. I watched her for awhile as she grazed on whatever she could find to eat on the snow covered and icy ground. She took notice of me several times but didn't seem to mind my presence. I finally caught her looking directly at me through the lens of my camera and took this shot. My idea of shooting wildlife...through a lens. Captured at Gulnare, Colorado by Barbara Chichester..........The mule deer is a deer indigenous to western North America; it is named for its ears, which are large like those of the mule. There are believed to be several subspecies, including the black-tailed deer. Unlike its cousin, the white-tailed deer, mule deer are generally more associated with the land west of the Missouri River, and more specifically with the Rocky Mountain region of North America. Gulnare was settled in the late 1800's. Seems the town was named for a champion Hereford: Lady Gulnare. She was brought over from Europe specifically to put new blood into the local cattle industry. Gulnare was a reasonably prosperous ranching and farming area when the coal mines in nearby Aguilar were running.
